About Us

The North East Culinary & Trade Association aims to provide the skills and opportunities available to chefs, food producers and catering professionals in the North Region of England.

By working closley with catering colleges, employers, producers and manufacturers and staging major annual events such as the Northern Chef of the Year competition NECTA hopes to raise the profile and quality of the catering and hospitality trade in the North of England to equal that of anywhere in the country.

The NECTA committee is made up of a wide selection of catering professionals, chefs, restaurateurs, lecturers and manufacturers who all give up their time voluntarily to work together to promote their passion for the food and drink industry.

What We Do

NECTA : TO PROMOTE CULINARY AND SERVICE EXCELLENCE

  • The only independent association in the region to promote skills within the hospitality industry.
  • Raise the profile and quality of the hospitality industry in the North East to equal that of anywhere in the country.
  • Work closley with colleges, restaurants and hotels, from students at entry level to those at management level.
  • Attract chefs, restaurateurs and colleges from outside the region to Newcastle.
  • Work directly in colleges with students to develop competition techniques.
  • Arrange the competition schedule to encourage lecturers to focas on specifc skills.
  • Strive through training to encourage juniors to remain in the region.
  • Work closely with employers to provide employment opportunities for students and junior chefs.
  • Compose the competition schedule to link local food producers, thereby showcasing their products throughout the two days.
  • Organize chef's conferences with local chefs.


NECTA are now forming a team of chef's to participate at various venues across the country, acting as ambassadors for the city of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Sugarcraft

Our goal is to try and develope these skill in the North East.

THE aims and objectives of the Necta Sugarcraft are to :

  • Promote and stimulate interest in sugarcraft in the Northern Regions,
  • Share knowledge,
  • Develop talent throughout the North East,
  • Improve standards.
